Bought one for transfer of VHS and Hi8 video to Vegas 8 for editing a year ago. Just decided to use it now.
I have a question about the dip switches on the bottom. I am getting mixed opinions on the net about them.
The unit came with the following default positions for the switches:
Switch No.
1. Digital-in Reference Synch Mode: OFF (set to stream synch) ON would be Fixed synch.
2. Power-on Input Mode: ON (set to digital) I think this should be set to OFF (analog)
3. Audio Mode: OFF (48Khz/16-bit)
4. Locked Audio Mode: OFF (locked)
5. NTSC Setup Level: ON (7.5 IRE) OFF would be 0 IRE. Not sure about this one
6. Video Format: OFF (NTSC) I am in the US. ON would be (PAL).
So I think Dip Switches 2 and 5 are where I have a question.
1. Dip Switch 2:
If I am capturing VHS and HI8 mostly then I think Dip Switch should be set OFF (Analog) and not the default ON (Digital). I am not sure why the default is Digital anyway. Isn't this device for capturing analog video in digital format?
2. Dip Switch 5: This is my biggest question
The manual says that the default setting for this switch is OFF which for NTSC means 0 IRE. Yet the switch was ON when I opened the box and looked at the device which for NTSC means 7.5 IRE.
But should that switch be set to 0 IRE (OFF) or 7.5 IRE (ON) for NTSC use with analog sources?
Thanks,
John
