Question for EX1 Users re FCP mov file

I hired a videographer to provide an additional angle of an interview with his EX1, he went back, imported it onto his Mac, and loaded copies of the files onto an external hard drive. I can't import them into Vegas or even play them on my PC via Quicktime (latest Version 7.5.5). I was able to use Quicktime to tell me info regarding the codec used for the file: "XDCAM EX 1080p24 35 Mb/s VBR." When I try to use Quicktime to play the file, it states that Quicktime cannot play this file without additional software, but then it doesn't give me a specific plugin/etc to purchase. I read in an earlier thread that the only solution may be to have the videographer re-render the file into the ProRes format. Is that the only option or is there something I can do on my end?

Hello
Quicktime needs an MPEG2 plug-in to play MPEG2 files but if I recall correctly it still won't work on XDCAMEX files.
Ask him for a copy of the BPAV folder from the card.
Then use XDCAMEX Clip Browser from Sony (free) to convert the files to MXF.
These will import into Vegas.
If he has the recommended workflow he should still have the BPAV folder from before he converted to .mov.
If not he will need to convert in Final Cut to something you can use.
Hope this helps.
