I wonder how difficult it is to write a video out module that will simply output the timeline to the directdraw overlay. Maybe it can be done by modifying the driver that sends the output to the second monitor.
The reason I'm asking is that I've been using Edius Neo 2 Booster, and while the program itself doesn't have the option to output to a second monitor, it has an option to send the video being played to the directdraw overlay. This works out great for me because if I set it that way, and then I set the graphics card to theater mode in full screen, and also the second monitor (TV set in my case) to 1080i, then when I play video on Neo I get a perfect interlaced video on the TV set that looks just like it was recorded, unlike Vegas, which displays it in progressive form and with a lot of stutter. The only drawback is that when Windows is using overlay it switches to that disgusting Aero Basic mode, but I can live with that if that means having the timeline display interlaced on the TV set, even though the TV set will deinterlace it, but it will show a smooth motion like if the camcorder was connected to it directly.
There is an old plugin for Vegas 8 that I tried once, but it didn't work right, most of the time it froze in a frame, and it was not done well because it was a filter instead of a video out plugin.
So how hard would it be to do something like this?
