If you are looking to change adjust just the audio portion of the video.
First of all let me just say, that if all you want to do is increase the volume of a certian part or something minor such as that, you could just open up a new veg and place the rendered video(avi) there and adjust those parts with with a volume envelope and add compression or what ever else.
Then you can render that to Mpeg for DVD use if thats all you need to do.
But if you need to do more than that ,then what Edward was refering to is .....You would place the rendered avi on a new top track above your prerendered version. Make sure they are aligned (begin at the same time),this will actually place a video and audio track of the rendered video above. You can then delete or mute the avi audio track, Now mute all the Video tracks except the avi video track.
do your audio adj's to the tracks as you need.
Then render out to a new avi.

Track 1 - New rendered video (ignore the rendered audio)
Tracks 2 thru ??? - original project.

For audio: Simply make any desired audio changes.

For video: Delete the sections on Track 1 where you wish to make video changes. Then just change the video as desired.

When done, render to a new AVI file. This will be a very fast process.

So the video of the avi file on top is in sync with the prerendered video file below it. If I cut out a 10 second portion of the avi file, the video of the same 10 seconds is right below it on track 2. If I wanted the sound to stay in sync, I would have to delete (cut) the same 10 seconds of the audio in the prerendered file below, right. Thanks for being patient with me. I'm still learning.
