Question on amount of Graphics card memory needed

Cliff Etzel wrote on 6/26/2017, 3:46 PM

I'm confused about how much RAM on the graphics card I would need for editing in Vegas. I'm seeing alot of 2GB AMD cards for sale but trying to find a 4GB or 8GB card is a very spendy proposition right now due to the severe shortage of AMD cards.

Anyone shed some light on whether 2GB AMD card is more than enough for Vegas or should I hold out for a minimum of 4GB card?

TIA...

I recommend 4GB. How about a Fury X? it's still the top GPU.

I've looked for just about any 4GB AMD card - apparently they are in very short supply due to something called bitcoin mining that AMD GPU's can do and nVidia can't right now.. seeing some cards going for 2-3x their original price due to this demand versus supply.

eBay?

That's where I've been looking... When I see an AMD 4GB card going for over $700 - I just shake my head...

Are you sure? I found Fury X cards for below 400.

hmmm.... I hadn't looked at that particular model... then again, it's outside my budget. Thanks for the recommendation. Will keep saving to upgrade.
