Question re: audio output/video output

I've just finished my longest video project in a while...over one hour of video of my kids' camp show with transitions and a few video fx's thrown in, followed by 30+ high quality jpeg stills with pan and zoom effects added to the stills, with an imported .wma music background for the stills. The project settings were set for widescreen dv. I rendered the project to my hard disk as an .avi file. The render took over 15 hours, but was flawless! I then opened the .avi file in DVDAS to create my DVD. I again set the output for widescreen, set my chapter points and rendered. This render took 5 hours, but again was perfect. The resulting DVD was played to oohs and aahs of the family tonight, but I saw 2 problems that I'm wondering about...

1. My audio output, when played back on my 5.1 home theater setup, only comes out of my center channel audio speaker...no stereo at all. It sounds OK, but I'd really like my stereo sound back...what did I do wrong???

2.When the video is played on my widescreen TV, I get black bars along the sides of my display...the screen is not filled despite my setting the project and DVD settings for widescreen...Again, what did I do wrong???

As always, help is appreciated!

The audio is likely a function of your stereo system since the DVD you created doesn't have dolby AC3 on it. You might check your owners manual and see if there are any switches that can change this.

I have to tell my TV to display 16:9 content as 16:9 - maybe you need to do the same? If you play the DVD back on your PC does it look like widescreen?

Thanks for the reply...

You were right about the audio. I needed to tweak a few settings on my DVD player and my receiver, and the audio is fine.

As far as the video goes, when I play the DVD using my computer's DVD viewer, the movie comes out letterboxed. On my 16:9 widescreeen TV, the video continues to have black bands down the sides. I don't think I need to change any settings on my DVD player, because regular widescreen DVD's play just fine.

Could the problem be because I created the project in VMS using widescreen output, then set my output settings in DVDAS also as widescreen???

It's a minor problem, but the program is so great I'm trying for perfection now!
