Question re: Panasonic TM700

Reading about the Intelligent Scene Selector. Does the camera's background/foreground compensation really work with subjects in shaded areas w/ very bright backgrounds?

I've been having difficulty with shooting subjects in this very situation where the subjects are under a shaded area and the background is very bright. When I manually set my exposure to the subject or the background, the subjects either come out very dark or the background is blown out to almost pure white.

Is there any tricks around this?

Those who have the Canon VIXIA HF10 or 100, how the Canon's Advanced Auto Exposure System, Correction of overlit (blowout) backgrounds and underlit (black level correction) work?

Does the Sony CX550VE have an exposure compensation? I did not notice anything being mentioned about this on the website.

Thanks!
Byron

I've been very impressed with the TM700's ability to handle lights and shadows. I don't use the special modes, just basic auto or manual, and snow+black rock footage comes out looking surprisingly natural even with little processing. In comparison, the Canon HF series cam don't do nearly as well with contrasty scenes.
