Question with exporting

I was using a friends Premiere system with a DV500 card which allows you to bring in DVD through an analog connection. I had no problem playing these .avi files in VV3 and they looked good, but when it came to exporting them it was pure hell. I still can't get a good quality image and i think i've tried every combination possible. Can someone please tell me what it could possibly be or how i can fix this.. I need to get this off the computer as soon as possible and i don't really want to re-edit it in premiere. Thanks in advance for the help

Can you tell use what you're doing to export? Are you rendering? And if so, to what file type and what are your render parameters? Also, please describe the problems specifically. Thanks!

i am rendering the output to an .avi the standard settings. I played around with every little setting i could think of. The Video will play through my s-video which is hooked up to my tv then i record straight to VHS. But the problem lies in whatever rendered file i come up with looks horrible. And i can play striaght from the time line cause my transition dosn't go smooth enough. My project properties are set at normal DV NTSC with the render quality up to best. hope this can help shed some light on the problem.
