Quick workflow Question

Hi All,

Once you mark your IN and OUT from the trimmer (and even added to your timeline) and then move forward to another spot on the trimmer, how do you recall your previous IN and Out points? (Without moving the IN OUT selection).

I'm trying to grab 5 frames 15 times at different parts of the video and would like to use the same template of my IN and OUT markers I have.

After you hit your "in/out" points, hit "r" on the keyboard. I twill make this a region. Then, to select your regeion again just double click on one of the numbres for the region.

After you have created the 5 frame loop region with your in and out points, you can drag it to other locations within the trimmer. Click and drag the middle of the gray area (above the time ruler) to another location in your media that you want it. Hit R to create a region at that point. Then move it elsewhere, hit R, and so on. I think this is what you desired to do when you said you wanted to set up a template for this.

You can easily set the selection length to exactly 5 frames. Double click the Selection Length box at the bottom right of the trimmer (of the 3 boxes it's the farthest to the right). Then type in the desired length, in the current trimmer ruler units.

If you click the Save Markers/Regions toolbar button (looks like a floppy disk), this will save the regions with the media file to disk.

The Selection Length box is a big help, but I don't understand the recall of the previous In out...Let me better explain.

In the trimmer I set my In and Out point for 5 frames and added to my timeline. When I move forward in the Trimmer I hit the Zoom Out (Time Down) to quickly advance much furthur in the video. When I like a scene, I no longer see my previous In/Out points, and therefor forced to count 5 frames again. (I would like to say add my previous In/out points at the current scene I'm at)

Dragging the original In/Out points (above the ruler) advances only by the time set, which can only advance 1 frame at a time (since I have Zoomed in considerably), and if I need to advance say 30 minutes, it would be very long.

My suggestion to drag the loop selection in the trimmer (the in/out points) only works if you can still see it after zooming, sorry. And yes, it will be very tedious if you can see it and are zoomed up a lot so that it has to advance a long way to the next in/out point you drag it to.

About the best you can do in your particular situation when you zoom way up is to click the cursor at the "in" point you want to use. Double click in the Selection Length box, type 5, and hit Enter. You'll now have a loop selection of 5 frames (your in and out points). You can then hit R to create a region there (naming them may be helpful), and save the region(s) as I previously mentioned.

Then you might want to try this. Go to the Explorer tab, navigate to the media file and select it. Set the view so Region View is selected and it will display a list of the regions you created (this is a small icon in the Explorer toolbar, looks kind of like a miniature spreadsheet, click on the down arrow to see the menu or the click the button to cycle through the options). You can now click on a region name and drag it to the Vegas timeline and only that region will be added.

This method might improve your workflow. Basically, you first use the trimmer to mark and save your in/out points as regions. After that, you add the regions to the timeline using the Explorer.
