Quickest way to insert an event

Several threads have mentioned how to insert an event or the fastest way.
Maybe the fastest way is as follows:

1. Find the length in time of the event to insert.
2. Split the time line for all tracks at the insert point.
3. Turn off auto ripple. Turn off all selections
4. Do Insert-time of the the length needed.
5. Insert the event to fill the gap.

I'm not really sure why so many people seem so scared of auto-ripple. Try this with auto-ripple set to all events, etc....

1. Turn off all selections (Shift-Ctrl-A)
2. Split at the insert point
3. Drag new clip to the insert point.

That seems faster and easier to me. In particular it avoids your steps 1 and 4, both of which are rather time consuming.

This works beautifully. It's faster and more precise. Just requires you to have "auto ripple all tracks markers and regions" turned on...THANKS.

Understanding and working with Auto Ripple is important when working with multiple tracks --- sooooo easy to mess things up down the line when a project is nearly done and you want to do an insert.

One thing I've learned to do is double click the blue slider on the right hand side of the timeline so it will minimize all the tracks for a visual view as you do an insert that spans lots of tracks. Helps me know that everything is still synced up down the line.

I've reprogrammed my keyboard to set the "F" key to "Ripple all tracks, markers and regions." This way, I just hit the "F" key once after I've done an insert, to ripple everything, when I'm ready. Nearly as fast, and you don't have to worry about turning AutoRipple off again, when you're done.

"Edit | Paste | Insert" also works very nicely for this purpose.
