Hi Guys,

I just purchased and installed Sony Vegas Pro 8. and having problem trying to import Quick.mov files into Sony Vegas Pro 8. I'm getting error saying:
QuickTime files cannot be read or written without a full installation of the QuickTime version 7.1.6 or greater components, including the authoring components.

Does this mean that I have to Purchase QuickTime Pro??? Thank You.

Have you tried upgrading Quicktime? Check Apple's site, the upgrade is free.

You shouldn't have to buy the pro version at all for it work.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply...
I appeciate it...

Yes, I tried that & upgraded to 7.55 Free Version and still had no luck.

Does the Free Version come with authoring components???
Thats why I was wondering ??? Does Sony Vegas Pro 8 require the QuickTime 7.1.6 or Newer Version with Full Install with Authoring Comonents???
What do they mean by Full Install??? QuickTime Pro???
I'm confused Not sure even if I update to QuickTime Pro that it will
Solve the problem. Not sure who/where to ask??? Any help??? Thank You.

First of all, where did the QuickTime files come from?
If it was a camcorder, please be specific as to make & model.

Hi Mike,

The file was created in Adobe After Effects CS3 Professional and Rendered as QuickTime Movie.mov file. The file size is only about 8.9mb in size.

What codec did you use to render out of AE? Quicktime is the container, but what is the compressor?

Try rendering it out as an uncompressed AVI or a PNG sequence.
The file size will be very large but much easier for Vegas to deal with.

I get a lot of MOV's mostly from mac's and at first I had only 7.1.5 installed, and they would not work. Then I upgraded to 7.5.x and it has worked with all of them since then, so I too think you should export differently from the sourcesystem.

Hi,

In AE I rendered out with QuickTime using (Photo Jpeg , also tried PNG, Video, Sorenson Video, & Also as None). with no luck. Right now I removed 7.1 Version and installed latest 7.55 Version Windows, and still failed to import into Vegas Pro 8. as QuickTime .mov file.

I tried Rendering as AVI & this worked but the FIle size is very big, I would like to get QuickTime to work. Also I am using Windows XP
Is this a Windows Qicktime Issue??? or QuickTime - Vegas issue??? Not sure what to try next ???

I am sorry, but I have only tried to import MOV's made on FCP on a Mac. Somehow I would think it should be more easy to go with a PC MOV, buf aparently not... :-(

Maybe you could try the AE forum:

If you have cineform, you could try rendering out an AVI using that codec, Vegas should have no problems with it, the quality is very good and the file size would be much smaller than uncompressed.

AVI is also a container that can contain hundreds (if not thousands) of different codecs.

If you render a quarter resolution MPEG-2 file in AVI, the file size will be small enough that you can fit something like 8 hours on a DVD.

You have a codec problem, not a QT or AVI problem.
