There are other threads about this http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=703763&Replies=12here[/link] and http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=703635&Replies=4here[/link]. What happened is that Apple just released a Quicktime update. None of the Quicktime versions have worked consistently in Vegas since version 7.62. In particular, Canon footage seems to not work in the most recent versions.

You can download the version you need (7.62) http://www.filehippo.com/download_quicktime_player/here[/link].

In order to go back to a previous version you will need to uninstall Quicktime and then reinstall it. If you have the pro version make sure to copy your registration code because it will be lost when you uninstall the current version.

After you install version 7.62, go into the Quicktime preferences and make sure that the auto update function is turned off.

In addition to what Laurence said, if you have installed iTunes 9 you will have to uninstall and go back to iTunes 8 in order for it to work with 7.6.2 or earlier.

I know it's a pain, but QT doesn't seem very interested in working with Sony apps. Maybe they'd just prefer it stays broken . . .

Apple doesn't know squat about writing Windows apps.

So you do. I hadn't tried iTunes in a while but indeed you're right. The latest version doesn't work. Version 8 of iTunes is on File Hippo and can be downloaded http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes_32/changelog/4648/here[/link].

I'm glad that I read these threads, as I avoided the mess. I'm convinced that the new QT version was Apple's idea of a cruel April Fool's joke.

Apple Fools!

I did not want to downgrade iTunes to v. 8 so I installed QT 7.65 (I am running Vista 32 bit) and both the latest iTunes (9.1.0.79) and Vegas Pro 9 are back to their normal behavior. One point to mention though is that 7.65 is not on the Apple site; one needs to google for a location.
