Quicktime crash when trying to change template

essami wrote on 12/10/2009, 8:02 AM
Hi,

Im trying to render to a mov quicktime codec with Vegas Pro 8. Im trying to create a new template, everything works perfect but when I click to change "audio" settings on the template I get the error message below and Vegas crashes. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing quictime. Im still able to use and render with the existing templates, only when I click the "audio" it crashes.

Thanks!

Sami

What version of Quictime are you using?
essami wrote on 12/10/2009, 8:12 AM
I was using a little older version but it was 7. something though, and now I downloaded the latest from apple website and tried installing that but same thing occured. I havent tried rendering any Quicktime files in months so I have no way of tracing this back to what Ive changed since it used to work.

7.6.5 (1327.80) is the one I have installed at the moment.
musicvid10 wrote on 12/10/2009, 8:23 AM
According to Apple, 7.6.5 was "supposed" to fix the broken audio introduced in 7.6.4 but I haven't seen any confirmation yet that it fixes the problem in Vegas 8.

You might try rolling back to 7.6.2, which is stable for most of us and see if that fixes the problem. At least that will confirm whether it is your Quicktime installation or something else causing the problem.

It would also help to post all your file details. Use MediaInfo or GSpot to get this data.

That was it! 7.6.2 and now everything is smooth as can be! Thanks so much for your help!!! I don't know what I'd do without this forum!!!

Oh wait, I do, Id have to spend hundreds of euros for support that we don't have available here in Finland! I wish I could send you some Finnish chocolate :D

We aim to please.

I wish I could send you some Finnish chocolate

I wish you could too, but you have provided some useful information; that the 7.6.5 "fix" does not necessarily work for Vegas Pro 8 users. That alone is worth at least one chocolate!

It was -35C in parts here Tuesday night. Anything close to Finland this time of year?

Hehe, thanks musicvid! Am sure pleased to be rendering, deadline tomorrow :) Have a look at our new music video, budget was zero! Trying to get it uploaded to a few tv-channels for tomorrow.

We rarely get below -30C here anymore, in Lapland it gets a little colder though :)

I like music video with a story line and a sense of humor. Yours has both.
Great work, keep it up!
essami wrote on 12/11/2009, 2:49 PM
Hahaha, oh man, now iTunes wont start up, says it needs the latest Quicktime to work, so basically Im forced to uninstall and re-install different versions of quicktime. Quite frustrating! :D

Right. Roll back to iTunes 8 and all should be right again.

I currently have only Sound Forge Pro 10, but no version of Vegas. I hope to add Vegan Pro Video 9 soon.

My PC came with QuickTime QuickTime 6.0.0.71 several years ago. I also have Windows Media Player 11 and Nero Ultra 6. Everything is working very well. I don't want to rock the boat.

I have been reading on this forum that there are problems with QT if you do not version 7.6.2. Version 7.6.5 is current on the QT site.

Can anyone help by supplying me a copy of the 7.6.2 installation program (US English) or giving me a link to a download?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Larry

I can confirm the same crash in Vegas 8.0c when clicking that audio tab with Quicktime 7.6.5 installed. The crash is fixed with Quicktime 7.6.2.

If you still want iTunes then the last version of iTunes 8, version 8.2.1, actually includes Quicktime 7.6.2. I got that version of iTunes at http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=46.

If you've already run iTunes 9 and uninstalled it, it leaves behind a file called "iTunes Library.itl" which is not backwards compatible to version 8, so iTunes 8 will not run until that is remedied. I just removed it and "iTunes Music Library.xml" in my My Music\iTunes folder so that the whole library got recreated from scratch.

That's useful information Nick, since others have reported the same problem when trying to roll back. Thanks!
