Quicktime help

I'm using a client's laptop on extended loan to complete several projects in Vegas. Last night I installed the latest version of iTunes, which apparently installed the latest version of Quicktime Player. Now, Vegas can't read my Quicktime files. How do I rectify this? I'm not sure whether QT was installed before I did the iTunes update yesterday. Please help!

Uninstall it is the first thing I would suggest.

As for iTUnes I can't say except that Installed the newest QT which came with iTunes. Vegas reads QT files fine in my case after they wer einstalled. There is stand alone installer that will *not* install iTunes but it hidden in plain site so to speak. My eyes, and I am sure many many others, just go to the bug download link, which does not say anything about iTunes. However if you look arouind you will see a small text link that says "Stabnd alone installer". You might want to try that.

Make sure that you select "Custom" when installing Quicktime and select the "Authoring Components". Without the authoring components Vegas won't use it correctly.

Unfortunately you don't get that option when installing QT7 :-(

You don't need to select any options for QT 7. I could be wrong, but I *think* the components for H.264 are part of the old authoring choices, and are required for iPod export as well as other .264 options, and that's part of why they pulled those choices in 7. I could be wrong, but one of Apple's DVD team mentioned this to me, so that they could cut down tech support calls.

I got sick and tired of Real and Quicktime "taking over" even during custom installs so I installed Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative.

They play in Windows Media Player Classic (included).
