Quicktime is an unwanted software on my system

Geesh, i hate when i have to install all those software. Its just liek Microsoft they force us to use certain software which i dont like.

Anyway back to the track. I use to play a .mov file say twice every 6month when i come across a Movie Trailer, of course those files have to be in the stupid .mov format, doesnt it accure to the movie companies that people want other formats also.

So how can i play a .mov file without installing the stupid Mac Quicktime player, i didnt see any codec to install.

You have no choice but to install QuickTime, which includes the player in addition to the codecs. But you never have to run the player, and if you are careful about things when you install QuickTime you can ensure that it doesn't set any of the file extension associations to the QuickTime player.

For Vegas 4.0 you'll need to install QuickTime 5.02 or later. You'll need to do a custom install, the authoring components are required for Vegas and are not included in a typical installation. I recommend installing everything because I've discovered there are many interdependencies between the components. I never could find a minimum install in QT6 that would work without resulting in render errors in Vegas 4.

SonicTSW,
Is there any advantage to QT6 over QT5.02 as far as Vegas is concerned? Are there any improvements in the Sorenson 3 codec in the later version?

Hi SonicTSQ:

Thanks alot for the information. But i really wish that QT could be more like WinAmp, its up to the customer/client if i wether install a full or slick version of the software. But i guess its their way of making money.

As you also say, i basically dont have any choise aqbout it, so i have just installed everything as it is, even i only use QT once every 6months *lol*

What's wrong with Quicktime? Compared to the others, Media Player or, God forbid, Real Media, it's a fine format, and doesn't take over your system though the latest version with their tray icon is a bit annoying until you disable it.

I'm proud to say my system is a "Real Media Free Zone".
