Quicktime .mov files not working any more

Unlike some here, I have been keeping up with whatever the latest version of Quicktime is. Lately the performance of MOV clips on a Vegas timeline (at least on my PC) is so much better than it's ever been before. For instance, Cineform in both the AVI and MOV formats performs at exactly the same CPU load! Mov footage from my Panasonic GH3 is actually less of a burden on my Vegas timeline than lower resolution AVCHD footage from the same camera. Aside from desaturation issues in ProDAD products, I have no current complaints with the Quicktime format.

Mike,

I was mistating things a little in that MediaInfo is identifying the OPs media as XDCam HD rather than XD. I don't think it makes a diff, though.

I don't have this sort of media to play with but it really sounds like the Convergent Design utility I provided a link to can handle the conversion from XDCam HD .mov to .mxf.

If you happen to have any of this "S.Outta. L." media on hand, maybe you could test it? or maybe you have? Curiosity is gnawing at me.

Hello,
I downloaded the converter you linked to and tried it out but it did not recognize the file so would not convert. I have also tried to contact Newtek with no response and I I also asked the guy at the church that created the file to check his windows computer for a Newtek codec but so far he has not responded. My quicktime issues are not fully resolved so I am still troubleshooting that.

You'll have much better luck asking your question on the Tricaster forums.
You will have to register but it's quick, painless and spam free.

One Final Note. I finally heard from Newtek and they offered to send me the necessary plugins to play back their footage if I provided the model number of the system and the owner's registration info.
I declined as the client went another direction already.

Welcome to good old Sony Vegas. Vegas Pro 8. can't import and see quicktime files.
Although Version 6 can. And version 10. But not version 8. Go figure.
It's for issues and errors like these that Sony ignores and just releases new version they want you to buy, that I finally left Sony Vegas after 7 years and went to AVID.

Crashes during editing, lockups, hangs, codec issues, etc all go ignored. Sony's resolution to this is just release another VERSION and charge customers for it. Then fail to provide support for their "out dated" versions.

This is no way to do business.

Actually, I use Vegas Pro 8.0c on a Windows 7 system and use Quicktime files all the time.

But to make that work, I had to install version 7.6.2 of Quicktime -- no other version, earlier or later, seemed to work.

I have worked with XDCAM files as well, but had to install the XDCAM EX Explorer in order to make them work.
