Quicktime needed for Vegas Pro 14

I seem to remember reading that Quicktime is no longer needed in Vegas 14 to open Apple mov files. Today I wanted to put some video files shot on my wife's iPhone (I think it is a 5S) onto Vegas timeline, I copied the files to my PC, tried to place them on the timeline but up pops a message telling me I need Quicktime 7.1 and a location to download it. I don't want to install Quicktime as I believe it has some security issues. Is there a setting I need to change somewhere in Vegas or is this a problem in the program?

I have had QT on my computer for years and still do. I have never had a security problem. This issue was blown out of proportion because Apple discontinued support on QT for windows. I won't say you will never have a problem, but I don't think the risks are any worse than other software.

David-tu, I suspect the QT issue may indeed be blown out of proportion, but If Magix made changes to Vegas Pro 14 so mov are supported without needing QT, why am I getting this error? (I very much doubt a problem with the files, multiple files copied straight from her genuine iPhone)

Quicktime is still needed for some files such as iPhone 6 files.

See item 20 in this thread for details of rewrapping .MOV so Vegas native .dll decodes the .MOV files.

I still have QT installed even though I heard the security issue... so far so good and no security problem I felt.
