Vegas 7 goes immediately to an exception error when I try to render any Quicktime files (doesn't even begin rendering at all). Program shuts down after I click OK in the exception error window. Tried reinstalling Quicktime (7.1.5). No go. Any ideas?
Which compression codec are you using? I have been compressing videos with Sorenson 3 for a PC title I am working on with no issues. I have also done a batchof no compression QTs for work that is being done in Final Cut. (Again, no issues) Also, what audio codec are you using?
I'm using the templates that pop up in Vegas when I choose "render as" - in this case it looks like the QDesign compression for audio and Sorenson 3 compression for video. But remember: it never evens gets to the rendering part - the second I hit save in the render as dialogue box I get an exception error and Vegas crashes/shuts down.
It takes a little futzing since these aren't the default QT codecs, but I set up a render as Sorenson3 (all default settings) with Qdesign Music2 for the audio codec. Render had no problems so as proof of concept, itcould work.
I only rendered a single DV clip on the timeline. You might want to try that just to simplify the problem. Make a new SD project with one SD clip on the timeline and try to render that. If it still doesn't work then I'd be looking at QT and the codecs, otherwise I'd be looking at the Vegas project.
If QT is indicated, make sure those codecs are being installed by QT Pro and that an uninstall/reinstall also removes/replaces them. Maybe they came from another source than QT Pro?
Another option. You can export a file directly from QTPro, basically doing the same thing you're doing in Vegas, but you have to render an intermediate in Vegas. The most disk-effective way to do that is to install Satish's frameserver plugin (www.debugmode.com) and then set up a render from Vegas to the frameserver signpost file. While this is happening you open QTpro, open the signpost AVI file, and set up a render. You essentially get uncompressed out of Vegas without using disc space. The point of this is to isolate the QT encoder from Vegas and see if it works that way.
There are other codecs in the world...Not that I can recommend any.
First off, I'm not using QTPro. When I spoke to SONY tech support on the issue they said the free QT for Windows was all I needed (and indeed I noticed that before the install of QT, there we no QT render options in Vegas so that's where the codecs came from).
The Vegas project is a single DV clip originally rendered in Vegas 5.
The exception error says the problem is in the Quicktime module and the SONY tech I spoke to said there were some known errors between Vegas 7 and Quicktime prior to QT7.1.5. Problem is, I'm using 7.1.5 so...
Would going with QTPro make a diference you think?
Isn't there an option to render the audio as mpga (mp3)? That would be a better choice than QDM2 in terms of file size. If not why don't you try ALaw 2:1.
