quicktime sound problem

I am trying to use a MOV video clip from a Minolta A2 digital camera. The sound is loud static in VMS. The video is fine. The clip sounds fine when I play it in the quicktime player on the same machine. I have other MOV clips that work fine in VMS. The unique thing about this clip is the sound is 16-bit mono big endian.

Any ideas on how to get the sound to work?

There must be a better procedure, but the following is what I did to make my clips usable.

1. renamed the clip to a .mpg file
2. played the clip in windows media player
3.used windows movie maker to create a wmv file

The clip can now be used in VMS with the audio. The quality is not great but usable.
