I think it was SonicEPM who commented a while back: "You should also look at the Contour AVS "Shuttle Pro", it's got 13
buttons, and a jog/shuttle control, fully supported in Vegas 3 (in
fact, it's the only application that does vari-speed playback using
the shuttle ring). Their new SpaceShuttle should work just fine too,
but I've yet to try it."
I got one a few days ago. Very smooth. The jog wheel for frame-by frame, the shuttle for vari-speed playback, great ergonomics
I changed some of the buttons: Made Button 7 "Home" (keyboard equivalent ctrl home) button 11 "Select to End of Event" (ctrl + Alt + Shift right arrow) and 13 "Select to Start of Event". It would be nice if In and Out would also work in frame by frame mode and not just in Play mode, but this is a VV issue, not a shortcoming of shuttle-pro.
I'm using VideoFactory and too would like to use the C-SP. Can I assume that if it works for VV it will work for VF? Anybody want to step in here - please do.
ShuttlePro works for any application. You don't need a template, but it is nice to start with one. The ShuttlePro only needs keyboard shortcuts in the application to do stuff. If the application you want to use doesn't have keyboard shortcuts (these are those commands like "Cntl+S" to save in most Win programs), you won't be able to use the ShuttlePro with it. Again, if there isn't a template for your program (template is a ready made setting for a specific program), fear not, you can create your own template for the program using the software that runs ShuttlePro.
I myself wanted to use ShuttlePro with Windows Media Player, but I found that they don't have keyboard shortcuts! Also, Quicktime doesn't either. As a programmer, this always irks me. How much time would it have taken them to add these user interfaces into their programs. Must be some REASON that they don't want other programs controlling their program (selfish). :)
Carel - I'm not a Shuttle Pro users, but using I and O to mark in and out points seems to work at all times for me. Even when I'm changing the rate of playback using the scrub control (backwards too).
Here's a little tip - if you hit the 'wrong' In/Out key when you are outside of the selection region, the region will jump to the current cursor posistion and retain it's current size.
So;
1) Create a Region Selection on the timeline
2) Place the cursor after the Out point of the Region
3) Hit the In button and the Region will be shifted to start from the cursor position.
or
2a) Place the cursor before the In point or the Region
3a) Hit the Out button and the Region will be shifted to end at the cursor position.
