DavidPJ,

You're not the only one to express interest in Saturday meetings. However, the last time we had a Saturday meeting, turn-out was a bit low. So we opted to try a Thursday for this go-around. Depending on how attendance is on the 14th we'll have to re-evaluate and go from there.

I wish we could do both (monthly meetings on weekends and weekdays); but right now I'm busy looking for part-time work and practicing for orchestra auditions. I don't know that I can coordinate two separate monthly meetings and keep everybody up to date like we need to. :-] However.....I'd be willing to give it a shot should we decide that's the way to go.

Thanks again.

I figured out the Google calendar and can now see the RTP VUG. As I mentioned earlier, I don't hang out on this forum very often, so I'll follow the calendar and web site and hopefully I'll see you guys at a Saturday meeting or event.

I'll post a message about the group on DMN so maybe we can get a few more people interested in the group.

Terrific! Thanks David.

We'll be sure to post any weekend events on the calendar and the blog, and I'll add announcements to my website homepage. So just keep your eyes peeled. ...looking forward to having you join us!!

Our September RTP Vegas User Group meeting will be held at Flicko's tomorrow (Thursday) from 7:00 - 9:00pm. Here is a map to

Can anyone volunteer to bring Vegas 7 on a laptop?

Jerry

I would volunteer....but I don't have Vegas 7....or a laptop. :-(
Thanks for the update Jerry. I'm looking forward to this a lot. Gary from Flicko's emailed me. He sounds like a terrific guy to have on board.....can't wait to meet him and see his studio.

Hey folks!

Out of courtesy to Flicko's, I'd like to try to get an informal head count for Thursday's meeting. If you're planning to attend (and you happen to see this post) just drop a quick "I'm coming post" here so we know how to plan.

Thanks!

I'll be there, and I know Jerry (TeeTime) will be there, as will Gary (of Flicko's).

Hey - count me in and my buddy Roger, our bosses (aka wives) said it was ok. :)

We're driving from Fayetteville and leaving right after work here, no point in us going home first really.

Anyone want to meet us up there for dinner before Flicko's?

I'm not extremely familiar with Raleigh area, is Flicko's anywhere near the Cheesecake Factory?

Edit: I have a laptop, but won't have Vegas 7 until this weekend, I opted for the boxed version and ground shipping.

Kevin: That's excellent! Thanks for bringing your buddy along.

I'd love to meet you for dinner. I've got one appointment that's still not scheduled yet. A fella is supposed to come over to check out some classic amateur radio equipment that I'm selling.....as soon as I get a time on that appt. I'll know if I can do dinner.

The Cheesecake Factory that I know of is up at Crabtree Valley Mall, which is in North Raleigh. Flicko's is in Cary, southwest of Raleigh. It would be about a 20 min drive, depending on what time you go. If you plan to drive up/back during rush hour it could be more like 30-40 minutes with bad traffic. I used to live very close Crabtree Mall. I now live in Cary. ...done the drive plenty of times.

Jeremiah: I'm sorry the time doesn't work out for you. I'd be happy to hang out after your shoot. Depending on how things go and how early you finish, there might be several of us. Why don't you give my cell a ring when you finish? I'll update you on where we are and what we're doing? Jot me an email (address is available here) and I'll email it to you.

Hi Jerry,

I just found out about this group and am looking forward to meeting everyone. I can come to Flickos tomorrow night AND I can bring a laptop with Vegas 7 on it.

Looking forward to it!

Howdy Randall! Welcome to the VUG! We should have a great time tomorrow. I've met and or corresponded with the folks who are coming and this is a TERRIFIC group. Congrats on the Vegas 7 purchase.

...can't wait to see everybody tomorrow night!

By the way....several of us are thinking about dinner just before the meeting at either the Bonefish Grill or some place near the Stonewood Bar and Grill. Kevin and Roger (his buddy from Fayetteville) are on the list right now. I'm tenatively going to be there....depending on another scheduling issue. If anybody wants to join us drop me an email and I'll add you to the dinner plans email list. (My email address is available here.)

Sounds great... I love the Bonefish Grill, but anything is fine with me.

Randall - thanks much for offering to bring V7 for us to see. Sounds like we are going to have a good turnout. I'm in for dinner too - Bonefish sounds great to me as well.

Quick update on pre-meeting dinner plans:

Date: 09/14/2006
Time: 1800 (6pm) EST
Location: Carolina Ale House (For a map, click here)
Infinite5ths wrote on 9/13/2006, 4:45 PM
Hey Pete! That's excellent. If you like, you're welcome to have dinner with us at 6pm at the Ale House (see post above for map). Either way, I'm glad you can make it. This should be a superb meeting with lots of great folks and info!!

Hey folks!

I stopped by Flicko's today to meet Gary and to make sure I could find it tonight. Gary's got a very nice shop. He was there and I had the pleasure of meeting him in person for the first time (briefly -- he was working with a cliient).

Unfortunately, he won't be able to make it for dinner; but he'll be waiting for us at 7pm.

For those folks who are going to make it to the Ale House, Jerry or I (or both) can help lead the way to Flicko's. Assuming that traffic isn't bad and that the weather doesn't collapse, it will probably take 15 min to get there from the Ale House (maybe a bit longer).

If anybody has questions, feel free to email me (contact info here).

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who attended last night's meeting. Gary's place was definitely the perfect location. I am anxious for our next meeting already. Kevin, Mike and I will work on a site / tool that we can use to keep all this stuff organized without cluttering up the forums. Again, thanks to Gary for the location and the food, hope to see you all next time.

Hey everybody!

We had our 2nd RTP_VUG meeting last night. WOW!!!!

Turnout was terrific. Gary of Flicko's set us up in style with a perfect venue, flawless equipment, an excellent atmosphere and what was arguably a full meal! I think it's safe to say he exceeded everyone's expectations by a LONG shot. Thank you Gary!!!

Thanks to several folks for coming into Cary from Durham and Fayetteville. Your input was great, and I appreciate the extra drive time you invested.

We had a lot of very interesting discussion and an excellent demo of Vegas 7 from Randall -- our resident Vegas programming guru. As mentioned above, we're looking for a better way to coordinate RTP_VUG communications. We need to keep all of our info in one place...but this thread is getting WAY too big. Several creative and excellent suggestions were made, and I look forward to getting the new system running.

After meeting with all of these folks, I'm more excited than ever. The combined enthusiasm and broad expertise of this group is inspiring.

Thanks to everybody for coming; and thanks again to Gary for hosting this event!

Right now, we plan to meet at the same place (Flicko's) in Cary at the same time (7pm-9pm) on Thursday October 12th, 2006. I look forward to seeing these folks again; and newcomers are ALWAYS welcome!

Earl, I sent you an email from our RTP Vegas User Group forum at Meetup.com. We are in the process of gathering topics for our next meeting which is Thursday, October 12. See http://dv.meetup.com/71/ for more information.

After an early barrage of posts, you haven't heard much about the Raleigh Vegas User Group. I am pleased to post here that we have met every month since last October, and had eleven at last night's meeting. At that meeting we had fun doing a two-team competition for who could create the best short (1-2 minutes) video with some clips we brought in. I was impressed with the collective creativity and editing skills of this group!

At the suggestion of Veggie Tool Kit author Randall, we moved our group from this forum, over to meetup.com which has worked well for us. It provides a calendar, message threads, polls, and the ability to post files.

I'm sharing this in case there are others out there thinking of forming a user group - we are having great fun with ours!
