RAM Renders PTT-ed?! Dumb Idea?

I had a thought. Now maybe this is totally dumb, a waste of time and non-pro etc etc . . but I have/had been thinking about making a RAM preview - they work real fast - if I then "like" what I see then record as the signal is going out via my PANNie DV-Deck the same material. I've then got a DV tape of some samples. What do you think about the advantages/disadvantages?

I've just done it. The time/effeciency "cycle" of RAM preview, record and bring back to T/L is marginal . .. dunno .. .maybe there is some development here .. . who knows?

Only problems are that your audio is still wav, and not wav 64, and you do run a slight risk, depending on RAM and the machine, of hiccups. If you set preview quality to preview/full and render, you should be OK in most situations. But....it's not as stable as using the hard drive for segments. I've done short pieces this way, little 5 minute things, but never anything of length. I'm either a coward or just cautious. :-)

May not be a bad idea for a short project with very minimal cuts, effects ,etc. but for multiple graphics, composites and video footage, it doesnt work well. I have tried it =) May be my machine, but its a pretty big rig (P4 3.02 Ghz HT w/ 1 gig of Ram).
