RAM Settings - Strange behaviour

Like many others, I am struggling with Preview stuttering. Here's what I am finding:

1) Choosing different Preview parameters makes no difference to the stuttering I get when I have just a simple text media running.

2) Increasing my Preview Dynamic Ram setting to even 5000 makes little difference than if its set to only 200.

3) Creating a Zone (Shift+B) makes no difference to the stuttering.

My project is 640x480x24, 15,000p. On playback, it goes down to around 5,300p as it plays out the title text media.

The details of my system is detailed below:

i7 Quad Core 920 2.67Ghz; Win7 64Bit fully up to date
ATI Radeon 5700
6.0Gig RAM

Apart from spending $$$'s on a new GPU card, something instinctively doesn't feel right with this performance; surely a Quad core i7 and 6Gig RAM should eat this stuff even with an older graphics card? When I play back my video files on VLC or any other media player it works fine.

What type of clips are you editing?
What are your project properties set to?
Do you have anything running in the background (Task Manager)?

Mark, it is an AVI clip and I set the project to match the clip. The clip plays fine; it's the text title that causes the stuttering. And it does it for all my clips with a title media insert.
I have no other programs running in the background according to Task Master.

What are your project properties?

If I understood you correctly, my project is 640x480x24, 15,000p. On preview playback, it goes down to around 5,300p as it plays out the title text media and stutters.

And what are the AVI clip properties?

Same. 640x480x4625kbps; 15fps. Audio 64kbps; mono; 8kHz bits

To confirm, if you go to Project>Properties,on the video tab, on the template, it says 640x480?

Sorry for asking the question seemingly repeatedly, but it is important.

Yes!

Update - I updated my GPU card to the latest drivers and it seems to have settled the system down and the previews now work correctly and more smoothly.

Excellent. Glad to hear it.
