Random Ideas For Vegas 8.0 Feature List

I think the 3d camera should still be in Vegas 8. Madison has a huge intellectual / code investment in the "3d source alpha " composite mode, that they can leverage what they already have and make it "right".

The back end already supports almost everything needed to implement 3d camera, it's the front end paradigm which is completely unfriendly.

Currently, 3d souce alpha is a nice idea, but most annoying to do anything seriously with. Laying out 10 photos in 3-d and zooming around them is painful to do using the Vegas 3d alpha user interface, yet the backend code is already there and can do it.

The "3d source alpha" composite mode already has a "field of view" (which is currently fixed), "a lens length" (also fixed). Moving the "viewport" in the 3d source alpha is very much analogous to moving the camera, moving the viewport to the left causes the images within the viewport to move to the right.

With the exception of depth of field, the majority (if not all) the backend code to support real 3d cameras is already there.

All we need is a much more friendly user interface to the 3d composite engine. It's changing the 3d souce alpha mode from a viewport model (the current way) to a camera model (much more friendly).

I still like my idea of the industrialized how to block diagram/arrow manual on quick how to. Maybe select a block diagram arrow progression on how to do a composite with 3d then click it and it shows the chain in the lower thirds so you can constantly refer to it without going back and forth. Then click it again to make it go away. But that would make Vegas too easy. Forget it.

I was looking at some sample footage from an SI camera that was in a Cineform 10bit format. Yes, vegas lets me see a picture but the color is a mess. I think 10bit's going to be mandatory in Vegas 8.

Support for the HD-DVD format which will soon rule the world is an absolute must. Don't bother with that silly BetaRay, no one wants it.

JJK,

Good idea about the block diagrams. How about if they were interactive diagrams built into Vegas? Quickbooks uses something like this - kind of a diagram-based wizard to guide workflow. We see the same workflow questions asked over and over here on the forum. Madison could capture the knowledge from those responses into these activity based "wizard diagrams". For example, typical wizard-based activites might include:
- Create WMV for the web
- Eliminate flicker in my photo montage
- Combine 4:3 and 16:9 interlaced and progressive into one project

Tim, I agree with your point regarding 3d. Adding cameras would greatly improve the user interface into the already developed planar 3d compositing engine. I use After Effects which has cameras and 3d compositing is so much easier there.

The whole 3D track motion is a waist unless it''s true 3D.

Perspective 3D looks so visabley cheap. (pictures cutting into one another and the shrinking/stretching of pictures to simulate 3D) Why have just perspective with all the motion ability that Vegas has now.

and whoever is in charge of new features/implamentation, Fire this person if they don't clue in to the most requested feature = GOOD CREDITS AND SCROLLS!!!!

forget 3d all together, unless maybe develop another program to use smoothly with vegas. Remember track presets , and that line thingy ? I miss them, Probably there is a give and take within the program when foolin with 3d,, let me just edit in vegas , I take 3d to a program thats made from the ground up for 3d.
