Re: 1394 Problem

Further to my earlier posts with my Firewire problems I have now swapped my PCI cards around several times and am still having problems with PTT.

I have a Creative Labs Audigy and have tried using the Firewire port at the front and the back with the same resulkts.

Capture through Vegas' capture utility is fine. As soon as I try to print to tape it seems that my camera is not recognised (I have not had this problem till recently yet I have not changed the camera or other software/hardware except adding an Ultra ATA 133 PCI Card).

If I go to Vegas' Options-Preferences and select Video Device tab the OHCI Complient IEE 1394/DV is selected but I have a message ; Device unavailable.

I have checked the driver and that seems OK but have re-installed anyway.

WHen I attempt to PTT I can only set the camera manulally but soon after starting the routine I get a message that device is off-line and when I turn it on Vegas hangs.

please offer some advice or direction here as I am now tearing my hair out.

Thanks.

Mmmm

Haven't solved the problem but I now know it isn't with the Creative port or the camera as I took the rendered AVIs and loaded them into Studio 7 and Printed To Tape from there.

No problems to report. If it is a Vegas problem where should I look?

Cheers.

Looklike you have a conflict in firewire.Since you do have pci card for firewire I assume that you do not have on motherboard.
The other option is that your camcorder goes off before you get chance to
activate the printing.

The Firewire is only on the Audigy Platinum card.

I have previously had no problems with Vegas, the Firewire or printing to tape.

It was about a year since I last PTT as I have been working on DVDs since. As I have said I did add an IDE ATA 133 PCI card to be able to use all HDDs and ATAPI devices and have moved cards around in case of IRQ conflict.

It does seem strange, though, that the problem is only with Vegas and not with S7. Are there any settings that may have been altered and I have overlooked within Vegas?

Although the final result is fine I'd rather not have to go through the palava of changing apps for the PTT part.

Cheers.

Snip>The Firewire is only on the Audigy Platinum card.

I have an Audigy II w/ firewire through which I have an external firewire archive drive connected. I capture into Vegas and PTT via the 1394 in/out of my Canopus ADVC-1394 card. I don't have any problems PTT from the timeline or selecting a file to PTT.

Actually, the Audigy has two Firewire ports (Front & back) and both give the same problems with V4. I don't really want to go to any other expense at this stage. Besides, it used to work OK so why not now?

I just recently started having a similar (but not identical) problem. My ADVC100 would dump the 1394 drives off the bus as soon as it was recognized. So far the solution has been to remove one of the drives from the bus.

So...Things to try:
Simplify the chain. Remove anything you don't need from the bus. If you have a choice of drives, try testing each of them individually. Can you PTT with any one of them?

Also, try things like turning off the thumbnails in Vegas, Turn off screen displays, make sure the 1394 network interface is disabled, disable all network interfaces.

I assume all the above can be done in V4 except the network options.

But it doesn't really cover the fact that the Firewire and PTT works fine from S7.

Under V4 Prefernces-Video device OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394/DV is selected but the following message is displayed underneath.

This device supports recompression
Hot pluggable device
Device unavailable

So, why is V4 not recognising the device? This message appears whether the camerea is plugged in and DV In set or not.

Any help?

Cheers.

Okay then, how about making sure that Device control is enabled.

Okay then, I see that there's no real device control option in the PTT tool within Vegas. There is, however, in Vidcap. You could try to PTT there.

By any chance is there some 1394 device between your record device and computer? An ADVC100 maybe? This would cause the tape deck to be unavailable because it shuts off device control.
