1st: ,SONY, I cannot believe your support system...... I've been through the forum for way to many hours already...... And have found some answers but obviously not the right ones yet. I've called your support number and had to talk with a pre-sale person (Mike, who by the way was very kind) in order to get a toll free number that has been busy for 1/2 a day.... AMAZING.... It's not like you guys are giving your programs and cameras away for free. We're paying good mony for equipment that should have a better support system...

Anyway, here's the problem: I have Vagas 6.b and a Sony HDR-FX1 Windows XP (with the latest updates) p-4 processor 2.4 512mb&100gb external drive (HDR-FX1 connected with fire wire). I found a thread posted back in april 05 by SonyBP explaining how to go to device manager, AVC Tape subunit and update the driver. The problem is, I can't find a list of devices to pick from. When I right click on AVC Device, Properties, Details, the FX1 shows up in the dialog box below the pull down which reads 61883\SONY&HDR-FX1&10001\E2AF83041460008 So the FX1 seems to be there, Why isn't it showing up in the vegas HDV device box?
Thanks in advance,
Sorry to blow off steam.....

First, realize that the camera and Vegas are two completely different divisions of Sony. One division based in San Diego with their support team in Austin, TX, and the other division based in Madison, WI, which is also where the support for the software is maintained.

Second...The problem you're having is Windows if the camera isn't recognized, not Vegas.

That said, if the device is showing correctly in Control Panel/System, then you likely are using the wrong capture utility. You should be using the INTERNAL, not EXTERNAL capture device.
Further, be SURE that the camera is in HDV mode when using the INTERNAL capture app. If it's in DV mode, the internal capture device won't see it, and if the cam is in HDV mode, the external capture app won't see it.
In other words, you could easily have your camera set incorrectly. You might have it in HDV mode with downconvert enabled, which means that the internal/HDV capture app won't see it.
I hope this provides you a what you should be looking for?

DSE,
Thanks for the reply, I'll check my cam settings more closely. I'm sure the capture mode is set to internal so atleast that narrows the search for the problem....I'm still not sure if the drivers are correct in Windows but, understand that would be a windows issue.

Thanks Again,
