Hi All

I'll be burning my first DVD over the weekend aand, in lieu of this magnificent event, have been reading up about chapters, etc. in the DVD Architect manual. Unfortunately I feel confused now. Would someone be able to either put it into simpler terms for me or perhaps pint me to some help.

It could be that I m expecting it to be complicxated and, therefore, making it that way.

Any help would be appreciated.

Set markers and give them names on the Vegas timeline in each place you want a chapter to appear on the DVD.
Render to an Mpeg 2 DVDA template and leave the box check marked at the bottom where it mentions about saving markers in the render.
When you open the Mpeg 2 in DVDA and set up the submenu, the chapters will be automatically named according to the markers you set up in Vegas.

I just purchased the Sony DRU-510A burner and successfully burned my first DVD last night. I don't have the DVD portion of Vegas 4 yet so I had to use Movie Factory. It was a little confusing at first. However, it became more clear as I progressed. The feeling I got when I viewed the DVD on my big screen TV was pure elation! The quality is top notch. Stick with it. You will be very glad you did.

When I name the markers do I have to give them names like 'Chapter one - Guest Arriving' or jus Guests Arriving?

I'll post how I got on next week if that's OK.

You can name them anyway you like. But the shorter the better,space wise. You can always change them in Architect later. I've done it different each time. Thumbnails with titles, Thumbnails only, and Text only. And a mixture, of those.

I assume chapter markers can also be added in DVD Architect. If you're using a Win98SE system, a bug in V4 prevents you from rendering properly with chapter markers turned on. This applies to rendering to AVI. I don't know if the problem exists rendering to MPEG.

Yes, chapters can be set in DVDA without any being imported from Vegas. You drag your media file onto the menu page and double click on the button (object) that is created. In the window that opens, you can set chapters, in and out points, etc. BTW, I normally don't render to MPG2 before importing into DVDA. I render out my events into one DV file, then import into DVDA. Then, let DVDA render the final MPG and AC3 files. *Supposedly* this results in a higher quality video (I haven't done a comparison, though).

The problem only exists when rendering to AVI. It does not exist when rendering to Mpeg.
