I do not use the minidugutal tape in the camcorder, I run the camcorder output directly into a stand alone DVD recorder. This gives me a 6 hour recording time on a full sized DVD disk. Unfortunately this 6 hour disk won't import into Sony Vegas for editing by any means i've been able to find. There would be no trouble capturing directly from a cam corder but that's not the case here. Your suggestion would work fine for a mini 'dvd disk played from the camera but i'm not doing that.

Import DVD Camcorder disc is to be used when you place the DVD in your computer's DVD drive. It doesn't access the camcorder at all.

6 hours on a single DVD? Your quality is going to be nasty! You won't want to see the results of editing and rerendering that. Use the 2 hour setting instead. It's definitely worth it.

I also have to ask why you are running the camcorder output into a DVD recorder if your intention is to re-edit in Vegas. Why not capture in Vegas directly from the camcorder? It's much simpler, much more reliable, much better quality, and no mucking about with DVDs.
