Re-install VP13 without uninstalling first?

I am having a problem with VP13 (build 453) and want to try re-installing it to see if the problem clears up. When I ran the installation file for build 453 it said the program is already installed and I need to uninstall it first. I thought I remembered that you could re-install VP over the top of itself, without uninstalling first, to correct any files that may have been corrupted.

Am I remember wrong? I fear that uninstalling will loose all my settings and customizations, plus make me re-install all plug-ins and extensions.

You can INSTALL over a NEW Build. I/we've done it. I've read and done that to install SAME build requires an UNINSTALL. If you want to saga to FACTORY RESET hold down CTRL and hit the VP Icon. This will rest everything to the SCS Default.

So, to recap:

1/ Install same Build, uninstall VP

2/ Install-over for new Builds

3/ Factory reset.

Think I be got it correct?

Thanks Grazie. I was hoping to install the same build over the top of itself --- sort of a repair of any possibly corrupted files.

But from what you said (and what the installation program tells me), since I want to re-install build 453 but already have that build installed, I must uninstall the existing 453 first. I think this means after the re-installation I will have to re-install all plug-ins, extensions etc. of which I have a lot - UGH!. Also, I will have to re-make all my settings/preferences again, right? Or will the uninstall routine for VP13 offer the option to save preferences so the re-install can pick them up?

O....K..... Try the Factory Reset first. What exactly is your issue presently? What are you getting happening?

Thanks, Grazie. I did the factory reset didn't it didn't help.

The problem I am having is that VP13 is suddenly sluggish in playback. Projects that formerly would playback at full frame rate now won't. For example, I have a project consisting of approx 90 jpg photos in the timeline, no effects added, no pan or crop. The jpgs/events are butted up against each other, with no gaps, no overlaps, and no transitions.

With the preview set to any resolution, including draft, and the preview window sized small, I cannot get a full frame-rate playback (project properties are set to 29.97 fps 1920x1080p). As playback reaches the start of an event, the frame rate drops to the 15-20 fps range for a second or two, and the preview continues to show the previous event. At about 1 or 2 seconds into the event it goes back to a full 29.97 frame rate and only then does the preview change to that event. As soon as the beginning of the next event is reached the scenario repeats.

I've tried enabling "Adjust size and quality for optimal playback" as well as changing some other settings, but it didn't help. My system isn't state of the art but was pretty fast for its day -- Intel i7 920 quad core with 12 GB RAM. Vegas and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit are installed on an SSD and the media is on an external USB 3.0 drive (also tried it with the media on an internal SATA drive). I've tried enabling GPU processing (nvidea 560ti), which I normal keep disabled, but that didn't help either.

It's puzzling that these projects used to playback at full frame rate, unless of course I loaded them up with FX. Now they won't.

The problem is annoying, but is tolerable for now, so rather than uninstalling build 453 then re-installing it, and then re-installing all my plug-ins and extensions, I think I will live with the problem. I plan to upgrade my system to a Skylake i7 setup in a few months and will do an clean installation of Windows and all programs at that time anyway.

Thanks for your suggestions (and if you have anything else for me to try, I will.)

Older versions SCS software used to leave the set-up files behind so a repair was easy and usually effective. I don't know about the newer versions or where they would be. I would suspect 'Applications Data' or 'Program files folders.

Thanks rraud. I took a look at those and similar folders but didn't see anything that looked to me like set-up files .
