Use the composite level envelope for the track and then add points and "fade" it in & out as you would with an audio volume envelope. Works like a charm.

Yes. Use a composite envelope. This is a topic in issue #10 or #11 of the Vegas Tips, Tricks, and Scripts Newsletter
