Hi

I want to show a small section (about 3 seconds) of my daughter sliding down a slide in reverse. I cut the event at the point where I want to reverse the previouse three seconds so that you see her slide down and then back up again. I then split at three seconds from the end and move that new event three seconds down the time line.

I then drag out the original event to cover the three second gap.

Once I have got this bit right I want to CTRL-Drag the Right-hand side to half length to speed the reverse clip by 2.

Now I add a velocity envelope to the new event and set it to -100%. This is where uit goes wrong. The worng part of the new event gets played in reverse.

What am I doing wrong here? Any help please.

Remember that when you add the reverse velocity envelope, it starts playing backward from the point where the envelope starts. This means that you have to start the clip at the end of what you want to show.

Personally, I found it easiest to just render precisely the part I want to play forward, then reverse.

Then, just play with that rendered clip.

If you do it to the exact frame, all works seamlessly.

Simple and easy, in my opinion.

Kentwolf: that's what I guesed I'd have to do.

Chienworks: I assumed that if I cut an event so it just played forward the secton I want I would have expected the -100% velocity to work correctly. Can you explain a little more why this doesn't, please

Let's see .... for the sake of discussion let's say you have a clip 10 seconds long, and you want to see the section from 5 to 7 seconds backwards. If you split it at the 5.00 and 7.00 seconds points, then apply -100% velocity to this section, then when it hits that section it will start playing backwards from 5.00 seconds, not from 7. So by the end of that section you will have seen 5.00 to 3.00 backwards, not 7.00 to 5.00. What you would have to do is remove the section you cut out, move the section starting at 7.00 back to 5.00 on the timeline, and then reverse starting there. Make any sense?

Or, use the Alt-move technique to change what time selection is shown in the clip.
