V6 is just beyond my reaches right now so I am afraid I am lagging behind everyone a littl here:(

With everyone's help I have adjusted my original veg file for something nearing what I want to achieve. It doesn't look like I will get exactly what I want and I feel that I have taken up too much of all of your valuable time on this already. Nevertheless, a great big thanks to all of you who helped.

What I still don't understand is if I use Track Motion to zoom into my photos why I get the black either side when I use the Push transition.

If I don't set 'Maintain aspect ratio' in the Pan Crop box then the black disappears but the photos then appear stretched and odd as I am using PAL DV widescreen.

Maybe I will do the 'zooming' in a photo editor so that I can use and maintain the aspect ratio.

Cheers everyone.

Don't use track motion to zoom crop. You can use the pan/edit controls for each individual event (photo) to get it where you want it. Then each photo will be discretely set up and the push transition will behave the way you expect.

RoT (Rule of Thumb): changes to individual events should never be managed (insofar as possible) with global controls such as track motion. Global changes should not be accomplished (attempted) using per-event controls.

In your case, it sounds like you're using the wrong tool.

As for aspect ratio (which is also per-event) maintain aspect ration, then zoom in a bit to ensure that the photo completely fills the frame.

Hint: another cool thing about the per-event pan/crop is that you can have the camera slowly move over the course of the event, e.g. starting wide and slowly zoom in for a close-up. The camera movement will continue even while the transitions take place. This can result in lots of on-screen movement, which can add excitement to a presentation.

Maverick, you get black on either side because your image is a different aspect ratio than your project. But, as you say, if you set Maintain Aspect Ratio, your image is stretched.

The solution is to go to the Pan/Crop window, right-click on the image (in the P/C window), and choose Match Output Aspect. This will crop your image just enough that you no longer get the black on either side.
