Re-use UDF-formatted discs?

Is it possible to re-use a UDF-formatted DVD+RW, and burn a standard DVD onto it? Or is it now a data disc forever?
When I put the disc into my drive, Windows recognizes it as a data disc, and it DVDA will not burn to it. (There is an IOCTL error as soon as the burn begins, and the fact that there will be problems is hinted at by the lack of any burn speeds in the dropdown)

Ok, I disabled DLA on that drive, and now DVDA starts the burning process.
(have HP DVD300i, btw)

... however, the computer froze after about 30 seconds, and I had to do a hard reboot. Trying again now....

It worked this time, however the disc only works in my DVD-writing drive, not my DVD-ROM drive. Oh well...
