read only error

When I try to burn a DVD, it tells me to insert a writable DVD and this one is read only. I've tried several brand new DVD R discs and keep getting this error.
What am I doing wrong?

It's possible that you're DVD burner only supports DVD-R and you are using DVD+R media or vice versa.

If that is not the case, what brand and model of DVD burner are you using? What brand of media are you trying to burn to?
