I have a advc 100 and sometimes when I open Vegas 4.0 to capture video throught this and my fire wire vegas won't find it. It seems to happen more than less as far as not being able to capture through this set up.

When it does acknowledge that it is there it works great but I am at a loss to get it to recognize the camera or video source through advx 100 when it is on.

Don't really know what happens when it does see that it is there it just does but not all the time.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jay

Try a different, high quality, cable. I had similar erratic performance until I switched out. Darryl

You cannot recognize a DV camera through the ADVC100. It doesn't pass device control though to cameras.

As for the ADVC100 itself not being recognized, Yes, I've had trouble with mine when it is on the line with other devices. My solution was to get a second 1394 card just for the ADVC100.

It used to work fine but at one point I managed to smoke a couple of them. This is the third and I'm not sure that the previous blowout didn't damage other hardware.

Currently, Canopus advises that the ADVC100 be connected and turned on before you boot the computer and then never disconnected or powered off during a session. That's what they told me but I have to say that's pretty impractical.

Here's my advice: always use a 4 pin connector to hook the ADVC100 up to a computer. The 4 pin connector doesn't carry power and I suspect that the ADVC100 wasn't well enough protected from bus power.
