Real Player won't play VP8 MP4 renders

Has anyone had any success in finding a set of options for MPEG-4 rendering that will play in Real Player using Vega Pro 8?

Real Player is only playing the audio portion of the MP4 file, but the same file plays just fine in QuickTime and Windows Media Player.

I've tried both MainConcept and Sony AVC options, but I haven't had any success. I know that Real Player can play MP4 files as I have done this many times in the past with other programs.

Real Player still exists? :)

I would take a look at what is being used in those other programs to encode (settings, etc) and contrast and compare. By the way, what are those other programs you are using? It sounds like a codec issue.

Yes it still exists :-)

Up until I bought VP8 I've been using Pinnacle Studio 10 and 11 for most of my work. The MP4 file outputs from here have worked just fine in all players, but there are no specific options in the rendering process that adjust the video format other than size and bit rate.

Is there any software that can analyze a MP4 and report on the video/audio format particulars?

Just moving my reply over to this thread:

I don't know the answer to your questions regarding what V8 is putting inside thhe mp4 container and if it only shows two options then I'd say that's all you can do.

For some background info on mp4 try a Google, there's some good info in Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_14

Down the bottom you'll find a significant list of possible video formats, even wmv can be in a mp4 container.

I downloaded the gspot 2.2.1 from the link that you provided, but it was a much older version and couldn't parse the MP4. I found the newer 2.70a version and that worked about 90%. Here's the reports

The one that doesn't work from Vegas Pro 8:

The one that works from Pinnacle Studio 10

I also tried mp4UI and it didn't recognize the VP8 version, but did with the other and reported the Video track as MPEG-4 Simple @ L3
