Are there ANY real-time editing cards that can be used with Vegas 4? I think Matrox 2500 does NOT work with Vegas. Will any other card work? Maybe DVStorm?
Do a SEARCH (top of this forum screen) for "Real Time" and you will find many lively discussions about this topic.
Currently, there are no hardware add-on "real time" cards which function with Vegas. But, there may be no need if your computer is very fast. See the discusions.
He's right. We use the Matrox RT 2500 at work with premiere, and unless you have everything set up perfectly in your timeline, you don't get real time. The money you'd spend on one of those cards could be put into your computer (faster CPU, more RAM, etc) and you would get about the same results.
Thanks for the swift replies! Here is my situation; I work for an advertising company and we're wanting to do more in-house video editing. Right now I use Vegas and other progs like AE. We send bigger projects out to production houses but we'd like to retain those costs and do them in-house. My thoughts were in order to do that we would need a real-time editing system. I am convinced that Avid is over priced and maybe not necessary (I've seen Avid at work and I'm NOT impressed). So my thought was that I would need this real-time card to speed thing along making the process easier. Now I'm wondering if this is true. The idea for now is too do the post here and send a digital master out to be printed on tape (Since we don't have that capability yet). So you guys are telling me that I DO NOT need a real-time card and a faster processor would work just fine? I need to be able to make this arguement to the agency in order get everything underway. Do you guys have any thoughts or suggested reading on this subject? Much appreciated!
