Real Time voice over possible?

About to purchase the Vegas 4.0 product. Let's say I capture some video and audio from a DV camera and import that to Vegas. Now I want to be able to do a voice over narration, in synch, while watching and listening to the initial captured track. I'll be using ASIO driver based audio capture for the voice over microphone. Is this doable in Vegas 4.0 ? The synch point here is the real question.
Thanks,

This is indeed possible. You might want to do some finetuning afterwards but it's definately possible.

I just did a small project that involved exactly this. I needed to narrate a tutorial video i had created from a screen capture. I plugged a mic into the sound card in my computer which uses (i believe) WDM drivers. Then i armed a new audio track and recorded my voice while the video was playing in the preview windows. I don't think sync was off by more than a tiny fraction of a second. No adjustment was necessary afterwards.

If you want to see the result, it's here: http://www.vegasusers.com/vidshare/textdisp?chienworks-transition-mask-tutorial

The video is a bit fuzzy because i recorded the S-Video output of an ATI video card at 800x600, then reduced it to 320x240 for the WMV file.

Appreciate the feedback. Especilly the low latency part.

I regularly edit programs in a client's office with a laptop/external drive, and record her voice overs straight to the timeline.

Sync is a non-issue, since you can split and move tracks to exactly where you want them. I tell my client to keep going if she stumbles on a word and repeat the phrase, then I clean it up in a few seconds afterwards - the power of working this way blows them away.

If you want to listen to existing audio while recording you'll need to use headphones, or you'll get track spill - I mute all other audio tracks whilst recording.
