Really, really, WEIRD number TWO

Hello All,

Without going into the reason why, I needed to rename a set of captured clips starting at clip number 1 and renaming this to clip 165 and so on upwards. I did this in the Vegas 4.0c Explorer because I needed to preview them as I was renaming them. Basically I would preview from Vegas Explorer and then press F2 and rename the clip. I did this on a blank new veg project. After finishing this, I exited Vegas.

The next day I ran Vegas and all the new names had disappeared. Basically, I had a set of clip names as they originally were before renaming them EXCEPT that they were only even numbers. e.g. clip 002, clip 004, clip 006, clip 008, clip 010 etc. Further on there were some odd-numbered clips called clip 165, clip 167, clip 169, clip 171, clip 173 etc. It was worse than you might think because the odds did not necessarily match the gaps between the evens and there some clips really completely out of their proper real-time order.

It took AGES to work out where they were all supposed to go but I painstakingly did it. I then re-did all the renaming. I pressed F5 to refresh the Vegas Explorer and, then, right before my eyes it stuffed up all the new names again, leaving me with about half of them named starting from clip 2 and the other named starting from clip 169. Evry now and then there was a number missing or so.

HOW ON EARTH DID THIS HAPPEN????

(Sorry for shouting, but this is distressing - I have to do it all again - I still need these clips renamed).

Regards,
Neil Porter

This sounds more like a Windows problem than a VV one. There's a standard API that every program (hopefully!) uses to get windows to do things like rename a file.

I must say the project explorer although useful doesn't seem to refresh as well as it should. I mean if I render a file into the current folder why do I have to hit F5 to see it?

As to the real problem at hand I cannot offer a whole lot of advice, I tend to keep a copy of windows explorer open while I run VV just so I can get a better view of whats happening. Why don't you do that and check after you rename a file to see if explorer also sees the file correctly renamed.

Sorry to hear about your weirdness. Maybe you should try to find out more about your house's previous owners and what they were up to.
