I have just finished editing 5 projects, and have managed to keep all the source video on my disk system. Now that I am done, I wish to delete all the source footage. With this in mind, when I captured the video I created vidcap files for each of the projects. There are 4 tapes for each project, and each tape clip has a different name (e.g. camera1 tape1, camera2 tape2 etc.) which match the labels on the tapes. I wish to recover the (considerable) disk space used for the source footage, but don’t wish to burn any bridges wrt making changes to the original veg files. Thus the vidcap files. I was under the impression that if the vidcap file had the tape name that the exact footage could be recaptured. As an experiment I captured a short clip, created a project, saved it then deleted the source clip. I clicked the recapture radio button and the source clip was captured properly. So far so good. I went to one of my projects and moved a source clip, opened the project and told Vegas to recapture the clip. When the capture dialog opened I noticed that it said that the clip started at 22:26:26;18 and was some 49 minutes long. Neat trick on a 60 minute tape. I let the process go and it said that it could not find the in timecode. I restored the media file, re-opened the project and examined the clip properties. The greyed-out timecode in the “use custom timecode” window matched the recapture dialog-22:26:26;18. I must admit that I do not remember what the order of capture was for the tapes, but none of them is 22:26:26;18 long. I went to another project and repeated the process and much to my surprise vidcap said that the starting in point was – you guessed it - 22:26:26;18 for 2 of the 4 clips.
To recap:
1) all tapes were captured from the beginning
2) they were all captured in a single instance of vidcap for each
project
3) they all have different names
4) each project has its own vidcap file
5) for some reason vidcap says that some of the clips start at
timecode 22:26:26;18
6) the tapes are all ~50 minutes long
Three questions. What could have caused this to happen? Can I fix it with out having to recapture and re-align the video? And most important, what would be the proper procedure to accomplish my original goal – being able to automatically recapture source footage with the minimum of fuss?
Thanks,
Jerry
