Recapture Copied Events from V6 in V7?

Having assisted a Chum here on the Glow FX, and needing to do the following - recapturing OFFline media from V6 into V7 - can you please check this out. Interesting . . .

#1- Open in V7 a V6 project which is known to have Offline-Media

#2- Now within V7 recapture the Offline-media from Tape

This works - fine.

Now instead of capturing, COPY the same OFFLINE Events FROMN the open V7 project and paste into a NEW blank V7 Project.

It is in this new project I can't get V7 to recapture. In Project Media all the same info is there, greyed-out, but there.

Should I be able to do this?

Is the V7 veg file in the same directory as the V6 file?
Same settings in both versions?

Where's the .sfvidcap file?

( don't know what Dave deleted? .. however . . )

"Is the V7 veg file in the same directory as the V6 file?" I opened the V6 as a new V7. It hadn't been saved and therefore no, it didn't exist in a directory. The NEW V7 hadn't been saved as a V7, only opened as a V7. It was from this V6 as V7 I then copied OUT some of the off-line media clips INTO yet ANOTHER new V7 instance. I just wanted 5 off-line events to experiment with.

"Same settings in both versions?" Yes. PAL-DV

"Where's the .sfvidcap file?" - I didn't use one? It tried/attempted to pull up the last capture session I used, this last weekend, which was of no connection with this "old" V6 project, which is some 6 months old.

But, as I say, the re-capture went ahead correctly from the V6 opened as V7 - but NOT the events copied from this V7 into another instance of V7. From this second instance the Offline-Events could NOT be recaptured - even thought the tape and capture info was present, albeit greyed out.

Is this something I can do? That is capture from copied offline events from one open instance of V7 into a NEW instance of V7? Perhaps the V6 open as V7 is immaterial? I dunno. Even still, can/should one be able to do this? Or perhaps there IS more info in a previously saved and opened project - albeit from an earlier VERSION, than a FRESH instance.

Grazie, I think you hit the nail on the head. Somewhere in the bowels of the VEGGIE file, there is data that tells Vegas where to get the recapture information. There's a strange relationship (or at least there was through V6) between the .SFVIDCAP file and the .VEG file that I don't fully comprehend. It seems sometimes if Vegas can't find the .SFVIDCAP file associated with a particular project, it will grey out the recapture option. Other times, there is no .SFVIDCAP file and it recaptures fine. Beats me with a big stick. I've always crossed my fingers and tried to save VEG and SFVIDCAP together in the same directory and it seems to work.

Hopefully, this all in the past with V7. I know Sony changed the way V7 handles recapture for projects with saved, trimmed media. Hopefully they made this feature more robust and idiot-proof (speaking of myself only, of course!) in general.

Thanks for that Brian. And yes, if I can see greyed-out info AND the recapture off-line media IS an option within this secondary V7 project then a user, well THIS user, thinks that I should be able too. No?

Thanks again.
