I'm new to Vegas Video, and using the Vegas 4.0 beta (4.00.074)
I'm currently experimenting with trying to import tape/scene
information from other sources (for example, an old
Cinestream project, or else clips logged in a CatDV catalog).
None of the media is online when I import.
What I want to be able to do is import the tape/scene
information, and have Vegas recapture all of the
media. This is not working for me.
I can export a CMX-3600 style EDL from Cinestream, and
import this into Vegas just fine. I tell the import
to leave all the missing files offline (both recapture
options are grayed out in the import popup, so leaving
the files offline appears to be the only choice).
Once the EDL is imported, if I go to the media pool and
right-click one of the offline media files, the "Recapture..."
is grayed out. "Recapture All Ofline Media..." is not
grayed out, but it does nothing. "Properties..." is also
grayed out, so I can't add a tape name to see if that helps
with recapture.
I have also tried CMX-3600 style EDL files from CatDV
(after a small amount of manual tweaking to avoid crashing
Vegas) with similar results, and I have even tried importing
a Vegas-style EDL where the media was offline. In all these
cases, I get offline clips in my media pool, but can't see how
to get Vegas to recapture them.
I searched the archives here, and found one thread where someone
appeared to have the same problem, but without a resolution.
So, should I be able to import an EDL and subsequently tell
Vegas to recapture all the media? If so, what am I missing or doing
wrong? Are there subtle differences between EDL files from different
sources that might matter? Has anyone ever tried an EDL from
Cinestream? If this does end up being an EDL format problem, maybe
someone could provide an example of an EDL file that can be
recaptured from.
I don't think it matters, but I have a Win2K system. I
have otherwise not run into any problems capturing/editing/etc.
with the Vegas beta.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
