Go to the golf store, buy the mid-sized SKB, add a touch of foam to the bottom and top of the case, and you'll be gold. Same case that some of the lighting dealers sell, but for half the price. (about 100.00)
The second from the left and the third from the left are the two we use around here. I also have one of the TransPac cases from Photoflex, but frankly, I prefer the hard SKB's. The TransPac zippers just don't manage the weight well, although the padding is really nice.
Great idea Spot , and thanks for link Jay, I got a Golf store down the street from me, never been in it,not much of a golfer...Some of you may remember my golf vid on Kelly's site : p.
I'll check it out monday.
Last year I picked up a plastic golf club bag carrier at K-Mart for $30. I put a reflector telescope in it. I think they still carry them. They have wheels and will stand on end in a corner.
The club cases work very well for light kits. I've seen Spot's Photoflex set up and you can get a TON of Photoflex light gear in one. I used to use a club case for my tripod so when I traveled, I also had room for a change of clothes as well. Saved me from having to pay to check an extra bag when I had a camera as carry-on and light kit to check too.
You GOTTA love this forum! The stuff you learn here is - well, it's just amazing.
If I was still using my old light kit, this would have been invaluable.
Right now I'm using Arri kits, so I'm not in immediate need of a case, but I've bookmarked the site mentioned above for future reference.
I've got a Arri D2 kit and normally rent lights when I'm traveling if I need a bigger kit. For kicks and giggles tried to check the Arri kit and realized again why I rent. The thing cost me about $240 both ways because it was oversized and overweight.. funny thing is that the golfcase as long as it was went without a hitch and extra $$.
