Recent Windows Update causes problems

The most recent Windows 7 update includes a file called wicainventory.exe.
This program has so many disc reads that I have to literally turn my computer
on and walk away for an hour. This wouldn't be so bad if it were a
one-time operation, but it runs on every bootup. As you know, video editing work
is HD intensive, so the recent update turns my machine into an expensive
paper weight. Any ideas on how to remove it? The Microsoft forums acknowledge
the problem, but don't give steps to deactivate or remove it. Anyone else
having similar problem?
