recognizing avi files

Hi
Does anyone know if VF recognizes an avi file which was captured with roxio video wave. The reason that I am asking is that for the umpteenth time Vidcap doesent want to play, and the only way round this is to re-install VF, which I have done numerous times.
So I am thinking perhaps I could use Video wave for capture and printing to tape, and then let VF do the serious work of edditing.

VF only recognises AVI-2 files. Others can confirm this. Also, Canopus site has a nifty little convertor that will make AVI-2 files from AVI-1 files produced by VW.

Thanks for your prompt reply, I couldn;t locate my old version of Video wave "Probably a blessing in disguise" so I decided to bite the bullet and purchased Scenalyzer, it cost 27 pounds but it is dedicated for capture and print to tape. I have had the evaluation version for some time now, and it always worked when Vidcap wouldn't.

I've used Video Wave 5 regularly to capture from DV camcorder and never have had problems with VF handling them either during editing or printing to tape. The one thing I like about VW5 capture is that you can see exactly when frames are dropped, which can be helpful.
