record edit AVI in VF -> ULEAD -> DV -> DVD-R

I wanted to post an update to a old question. Has anyone had success with rendering in ULEAD to DV and Printing to a DVD-R using a SOny DVD Recorder? Mpeg2 is too compressed as an svcd for real nice high quality stuff (IMO)...I see ideas around the philips system, however it would be useless for files backups..A PC dvd burner is cheaper and offers a multi function compared to a stand alone DVD+R Burner. any thoughts? _PL you still around? anyone else? I assume it is still tough to even consider getting a digital 5.1 audio signal duplicated? Unless there is a Optical input, it would be next to impossible. Some hitech sound cards have it, but the phillips unit appears to not have it. Well I have jumped around, it is late, I will sleep on this I guess. the_ripper

You want to render to DV-AVI, and record that to a DVD? This could be done to archive your footage and play after recopying the file(s) onto a computer, but I'm sure you realize it wouldn't play on a standalone DVD player, since the DVD standard calls for MPEG2.

BTW, nice to see you around again.:)

thanks p_l. Yes, this site has been the best resouce since I joined the SF group about a year ago. Always good to see vetrans like you, Grazie, etc. are still here too.

I thought the DV rendering option was high res mpeg 2? lower res mpeg2 was svcd or xvcd...? Mpeg 4 of course is the infamous divix which works in no stand alone players yet, only pc's. I plan on getting the firewire Sony unit. I heard DVD-R's work well in many DVD players, I guess the experiments will begin. the_ripper

Here's how to burn a DVD with MovieFactory. And here are DVD specs.

Hope this helps!

funny, I just read the specs this am.....Last night I made a ULEAD version of DVD however it is a bit jerky, crisp video, great sound, but a bit jerky at times... I will try again when I convert to microsoft avi2. ULEAD needs this format otherwise it chops the clip down less than a gig. I also started further upstream in the creation, i will start in the authoring section next time. I have movie factory one, but it looks very similar. the_ripper
