Record in pass-through mode?

I have a Sony D8 camcorder with a firewire port on it. Every now and then, I use the A/V pass-through ability of my camcorder to convert old analog tapes to DV. Problem is that I have to use this POS capture utility (AMCAP) to do this since VV3 says that no tape is in my D8 camcorder and refuses to record the signal coming over the firewire. Will VV4 work for me in this matter?

What happens in VV3 if you turn off Device Control. If you turn that off, perhaps it won't "look" for the tape.

Turning off Device Control should do the trick. Start and stop cam manually. Start and stop capture manually.

That's it exactly. I have a similar set up and ran into the same problem on the first attempt to pass through. Turning off the device control in the options menu of vid cap does the trick.
