Record to VHS tape from Vegas 4.0

Hi all,
I need your expertise again.
I'm finishing my first big project on Vegas - followed the advice "to do whatever it takes" to get the required result... Well, Vegas 4.0 patiently handled all my misdeeds and now I have to transfer a rendered project to VHS tape.
Having ACEDVio video-capturing card with digital and analog input/output (S-Video in and out, Audio in and out) and Vegas 4.0 on my machine I expect to be able to do that, but... Seems like I forced to tape it to the DV tape first and only then, using DV camcorder, copy it to VHS tape.
Am I missing something in project or rendering setup? I rendered the file in DV format and expect the video-capturing card to convert it to analog format...
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Novice,

You should be able to pass it through your video out to a VCR via RCA jacks but if that doesn't work, pass it through your camcorder (via the firewire) to a VCR (assuming you have a pass through capability on your camcorder). Vegas should recognize the device you are going to print to before you start the process. If it doesn't try turning off device control in the options/preferences of the vid/cap program that prints to tape and then click reconnect device. Your camera or VCR should be on and hooked up of course.

Having said that, I prefer to print to my camcorder tape (digital 8) first anyway as that is how I store my productions. Also, it's easier to take the camera to a VCR to make a copy (no loss of quality from a digital master) than to bring the VCR to the computer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Randy, I'll try all that as soon as I get to my machine!
And a very good point regarding making a DV copy, I'm going to buy a digital 8 camcorder or another mini-DV - it'll save a video head of my GL1...

I recently bought a Canopus ADVC100, an external box, but I remember in surfing around their site, that there are some compatibility problems on the 1394 card for which, I believe, Canopus has a recent patch. Start at www.canopus.com and you should find it. P.S.: If you haven't done it already be SURE to download the latest Vegas 4.0d patch.

Use an external monitor when you "play" the timeline or the rendered video. When you figure out how to get the external monitor to display the video, hook up a VCR just before the monitor. If the video is showing up on the external monitor, it is also being recorded.
