Record to VRD-VC30?

Is it my imagination, or has Sony provided us with an external, portable recording device for under $200? Any reason why the firewire output from HDV won't record on this device?

Ah,
it records mpeg-2 to a DVD and I see no mention of a firewire input.

From the specs page:
"Record video to DVD from USB, DV, or analog video source"
&
"DV Input: 4-pin i.LINK (IEEE1394), for camcorder connection only"

Looks like it to me.
