I couldn't find a way to do this. It's a good idea though. I would encourage you to make this suggestion at our online product suggestion form, which is located here:

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/support/productsuggestion.asp

This does go to our product managers, who are largely responsible for the feature sets of our programs.

I make a default .VEG file which has each input of my soundcard set to record in mono, and is labeled on the scribble strip (ie "input1 mono" or for stereo records "input 1/2 stereo". Therefore, when I'm ready to record, alls I have to do is arm the track and go. After I'm done recording that track I use the numeric keys and drop the event to another track, which again frees that track/input for another take. I never have to use the "Create new audio track" function or adjust my input settings using this method, therefore I find it saves time also. You could also do this and use the "duplicate track" option if you prefer not to move the events and then just record on the duplicate track you just created each time you go to record a new track.

Ted_H and Rednroll:

Thanks, I think I'll go ahead and use both of your suggestions.
